Protest in Muzaffarabad Highlights Opposition to Indian PM’s Visit to Kashmir

Muzaffarabad, A significant protest erupted in Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), in response to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Demonstrators expressed strong opposition to the visit, voicing concerns over the ongoing conflict and the treatment of the region’s residents by Indian authorities.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstration took place at Burhan Wani Shaheed Chowk, where participants chanted anti-India slogans and advocated for Kashmiri freedom. The protest aimed to draw attention to the continuous hardships faced by the people of IIOJK under Indian rule. Protesters labeled Modi’s visit as an insincere attempt that would likely worsen the situation rather than improve it.

Speakers at the event accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of committing war crimes in IIOJK since 2015, highlighting the severe impact of these actions on civilians. They also criticized the Indian government’s disregard for United Nations resolutions and its efforts on August 5, 2019, to change the demography of the Muslim-majority territory through unilateral actions.

The call for international intervention was a key theme of the protest, with demonstrators demanding attention and support from global organizations to address the crisis in Kashmir. The protesters affirmed their determination to continue resisting the military occupation and striving for the region’s freedom.

This demonstration in Muzaffarabad underscores the deep divisions and ongoing struggle for autonomy and rights in the Kashmir region, spotlighting the local and international calls for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
