Protest in Jammu Over Electricity Issues

Jammu, Led by Congress leader Taranjit Singh Tony, residents of Jammu protested against persistent power shortages and recent spikes in electricity bills, which have exacerbated the financial burdens on local farmers.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstration took place outside the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate in RS Pura, where protesters voiced their demands for reliable electricity supply. Tony addressed the severe disruptions caused by unscheduled power outages, particularly their detrimental effects on agriculture and daily living in border villages.

Highlighting the economic strain on farmers due to a 200 percent increase in electricity rates, Tony called on authorities to stabilize the power supply through the paddy season and delay the regularization of connections, which he believes would give farmers necessary relief to adjust to the financial demands.
