Srinagar: In an ongoing effort to suppress pro-freedom sentiments in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, authorities under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration have seized property from a local resident in Sopore. This action is part of a broader policy that has been in effect since August 2019, targeting individuals suspected of supporting pro-freedom activities.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the property, belonging to Abdul Rashid Najar from Naseem Bagh in the Baramulla district, includes a single-story residential house and adjacent land totaling approximately one kanal and one marla in the Amargrah area. Indian police have justified the seizure by alleging Najar’s association with pro-freedom activists, claiming the action was executed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act after obtaining necessary approvals from the relevant authorities.
This policy of property confiscation is reportedly aimed at intimidating the local population, with the goal of leaving them landless and homeless within their own territory, a move criticized by various human rights organizations as a tactic to quell dissent and opposition to Indian governance in the region.
