Srinagar: Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir is facing prolonged and unscheduled power outages as the region contends with a winter electricity demand that has surged to 2200 megawatts, while the supply lags at 1500 megawatts. This disparity is largely due to the preferential transmission of power generated from the territory’s water resources to Indian states.
According to Kashmir Media Service, residents in metered areas are experiencing frequent power cuts, which pose risks to vulnerable individuals who rely on medical devices such as oxygen concentrators. The business community, particularly small enterprises, has reported significant disruptions and financial losses as a result of the erratic power supply.
Critics have attributed the worsening power crisis to the siphoning of Kashmir’s electricity to regions outside the territory, coupled with administrative inefficiencies. As the situation persists, the impact on daily life and economic activities continues to escalate.
