Prolonged Dry Spell Leads to Forest Fires in Multiple Districts of IIOJK

Srinagar, A prolonged dry spell in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has led to the outbreak of forest fires in various districts, causing concern among local authorities and residents.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the forest fires have been reported in multiple areas, including Ganderbal, Shopian, Kulgam, Pulwama, Baramulla, Bandipora, Uri, and Doda districts over the past few days. Officials from the local meteorological department attribute these fires to the persistent dry conditions in the region, a phenomenon that has been observed in the past as well.

An independent weather expert explained that the current increase in forest fires is due to the lack of active Western Disturbances, which typically bring moisture to the area. The expert noted that the ongoing dry spell, lasting over a month, has led to a significant decrease in moisture levels in the vegetation, making the forests more prone to catching fire.

The absence of Western Disturbances, crucial for moisture delivery, has worsened the dry conditions and increased the risk of forest fires across these districts in IIOJK.

These fires highlight the impact of prolonged dry spells on the environment and the need for increased vigilance and preventive measures to protect forest areas.
