Proclaimed Offender in Murder Case Extradited from Saudi Arabia to Pakistan

Faisalabad: In a significant development in law enforcement efforts, Punjab Police has successfully extradited a dangerous proclaimed offender, wanted for a decade-old murder, back to Pakistan from Saudi Arabia. This operation marks another stride in the department’s initiative to apprehend offenders who have fled overseas.

According to Punjab Police spokesperson, Ijaz Asghar, the accused, had been on the run for 10 years following his involvement in a murder in 2014 within the Tarkhani Police Station’s jurisdiction in Faisalabad. The murder case led Faisalabad Police to coordinate with Interpol, resulting in the issuance of a Red Notice. Subsequently, the Saudi police apprehended Asghar and transferred him to Punjab Police upon his arrival at the airport.

This arrest is part of a broader effort by Punjab Police, under the guidance of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, to clamp down on fugitives. This year, the number of dangerous proclaimed offenders arrested from abroad has escalated to 83. Dr. Usman Anwar lauded the RPO and CPO Faisalabad for their roles in the successful operation and reiterated the necessity of strict legal proceedings against the accused, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with the FIA and Interpol to bring other fugitives to justice.
