Prime Minister to Attend Summit in Egypt Aimed at Gaza Peace Agreement

Cairo: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to visit Egypt on Monday to participate in the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, where a peace agreement aimed at alleviating the situation in Gaza is expected to be signed. The visit comes at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump.

The summit marks the culmination of diplomatic efforts that began during the United Nations General Assembly session last month. During that time, Shehbaz Sharif and leaders from Arab-Islamic countries held discussions with the U.S. President to explore possibilities for achieving peace in Gaza.

In a joint statement, the leaders praised President Trump’s efforts and reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate with the United States. Their shared goal is to secure a comprehensive ceasefire and address the humanitarian conditions in Gaza.

Shehbaz Sharif’s participation underscores Pakistan’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause, advocating for their right to self-determination and the pursuit of lasting peace and stability in the region.

Pakistan hopes the summit will lead to a full Israeli withdrawal, the protection of Palestinian civilians, an end to their displacement, the release of prisoners, and the reconstruction of Gaza. The country envisions these efforts as foundational steps toward a credible political process for establishing an independent Palestinian state.

Accompanying the Prime Minister will be Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and other senior ministers. The delegation aims to reinforce Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful resolution based on pre-1967 borders, in alignment with U.N. resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
