Prime Minister Stresses Modernization of Tax System to Bolster Pakistan’s Economy

Islamabad, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar emphasized the critical role of revenue collection in strengthening Pakistan’s economy and the necessity of utilizing modern technology to enhance the tax system. This statement was made during a meeting focused on improving the performance of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in the meeting held in Islamabad, Prime Minister Kakar highlighted the importance of revenue collection as the backbone of the country’s economy. He acknowledged recent efforts to curb smuggling but stressed the need for increased diligence in this area. The Prime Minister advocated for a consultative approach in improving FBR’s performance, including considering suggestions from all relevant institutions. The FBR team briefed the Prime Minister, presenting various proposals for consideration. The meeting was also attended by key figures including the Caretaker Minister for Finance Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, Advisor to the PM Ahad Cheema, the Chairman of FBR, and the Federal Secretary of Finance.
