Riyadh: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is set to depart for Saudi Arabia today to attend the “One Water Summit” in Riyadh. The two-day visit will place the Prime Minister at the forefront of discussions centered on global water resource management.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the summit is a collaborative effort involving Saudi Arabia, France, Kazakhstan, and the World Bank. It seeks to foster international cooperation and establish a unified approach to managing water resources through high-level political commitments.
During the summit, Prime Minister Sharif will present a keynote address at a roundtable dedicated to the themes of restoration, preservation, and adaptation concerning freshwater resources and wetlands. He is expected to emphasize Pakistan’s initiatives in promoting water conservation, enhancing climate resilience, improving water quality, and conserving biodiversity.
The Prime Minister will also stress the necessity for international cooperation in addressing the impacts of climate-induced floods, irregular and extreme weather conditions, and heat stress on water resources and ecosystems. Alongside the summit, he is anticipated to engage in bilateral meetings and other discussions.
