Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is set to visit Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on December 3-4, 2024, to participate in the “One Water Summit.” The summit, a collaborative effort by Saudi Arabia, France, Kazakhstan, and the World Bank, seeks to foster global cooperation and develop a unified international strategy for managing water resources through high-level political pledges.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister will deliver a keynote address at a roundtable during the summit, emphasizing restoration, preservation, and adaptation in relation to freshwater resources and wetlands. He intends to spotlight Pakistan’s initiatives for promoting water conservation, enhancing climate resilience, improving water quality, creating livelihoods, and conserving biodiversity.
The Prime Minister will stress the necessity of international cooperation to address the challenges posed by climate-induced floods, unpredictable weather patterns, and heat stress on water resources and ecosystems. He will advocate for substantive international collaboration in sustainable water resource management. Additionally, the Prime Minister is expected to engage in bilateral meetings and other activities on the sidelines of the summit.
