Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Address Key Global Issues at the 79th UN General Assembly


Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is set to participate in the high-level segment of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York from September 23 to 27, 2024. During this pivotal assembly, he will reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and its dedication to addressing global and regional issues, including the disputes over Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir.



According to Press Information Department, the Prime Minister’s agenda at the UNGA includes a series of crucial meetings and discussions emphasizing major global challenges such as economic disparities, climate change, and Islamophobia. He is scheduled to speak at the assembly on September 27, where he will also stress the need for reform in the international financial system and advocate for significant action against climate change.



During his stay, Prime Minister Sharif will participate in several high-level meetings, including the “High-Level Meeting on Existential Threat posed by Sea-level Rise” and the UN Security Council’s Open Debate on “Leadership for Peace.” He will also hold bilateral meetings with various global leaders, including the UN Secretary-General and the President of the General Assembly, to further discuss advancements in the sustainable development agenda.



This session of the UNGA offers an essential platform for Pakistan to express its perspectives on vital issues affecting both regional and international spheres. The Prime Minister’s participation underscores Pakistan’s readiness, as an incoming member of the UN Security Council for 2025-26, to collaborate with other nations to uphold the UN Charter and promote global peace and prosperity.
