Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Seeks EU Collaboration on Sectoral Reforms in Pakistan

Islamabad, In a significant diplomatic engagement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for the European Union’s assistance in providing consultancy and expertise to advance reforms across various sectors in Pakistan.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the request was made during a meeting with the European Union Ambassador Riina Kionka in Islamabad today. Prime Minister Sharif praised the EU for its ongoing support, notably through the GSP Plus scheme, which facilitates easier access for Pakistani products into the European market and has been renewed until 2027.

The discussions also covered Pakistan’s keen interest in the EU’s Global Gateway Strategy, which involves collaboration through the European Investment Bank to enhance connectivity and infrastructure projects. The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the EU’s congratulatory messages regarding his recent re-election and reiterated his commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.

Ambassador Kionka updated Prime Minister Sharif on various EU cooperation initiatives, including those addressing migration and mobility, and the support for European businesses operating in Pakistan. They also reviewed progress on the resumption of direct flights from Pakistan to EU countries, aiming to boost both people-to-people and economic ties.
