Islamabad, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to the Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, accompanied by Federal Ministers, underscored the significance of maritime security and operational readiness of the Pakistan Navy. He was received by Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff, and honored with a Guard of Honour.
According to Pakistan Navy, the Prime Minister’s discussions with the naval leadership covered the regional maritime security environment, operational preparedness, and the strategic future of the Pakistan Navy. He received a detailed briefing on maritime challenges and the navy’s strategies for addressing these, including capability enhancements to tackle current and future maritime threats.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the navy’s efforts in maintaining maritime security, particularly highlighting its successful counter-terrorism actions, such as the recent foiling of an attack on Naval Airbase Turbat. Emphasizing the link between a strong economy and national security, Sharif expressed support for leveraging the economic potential of the maritime sector.
The visit concluded with a tour of the Command Operations Centre, where the Prime Minister reiterated his support for the Navy’s role in defending Pakistan’s maritime interests. The Naval Chief expressed gratitude for the visit and reaffirmed the navy’s commitment to safeguarding national maritime boundaries in both peace and conflict times.
