Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Orders Accountability for Neelum Jehlum Hydropower Project Failures

Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued directives to promptly identify and hold accountable those responsible for the shortcomings in the Neelum Jehlum Hydropower Project in Muzaffarabad. His commands came during a speech at the project site where he expressed frustration over recurring faults that have plagued this major initiative.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister highlighted the findings from an initial probe, which pointed to various causes for the project’s issues, including design flaws and construction errors. He noted the absence of third-party validation for the project, which contributed to these oversights. Sharif lamented the resistance faced during the process to appoint Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) that were intended to identify these faults.

He announced the formation of a committee to further investigate these problems and mandated a report within one month. Sharif emphasized the scale of investment in the project, which escalated from 840 million dollars to five billion dollars due to delays, underscoring the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards negligence in such critical developments.
