Tehran: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan met with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran on Monday, marking an important diplomatic engagement between the neighboring countries. The visit, held at the invitation of President Pezeshkian, aimed to strengthen bilateral ties and address regional issues.
Upon arrival, Prime Minister Sharif was presented with a guard of honor at the presidential palace. Following the ceremonial welcome, he engaged in bilateral talks with the Iranian President, accompanied by a high-level delegation including Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and other federal ministers.
During the discussions, Prime Minister Sharif expressed gratitude to Iran for its concern over Pakistan’s recent conflict with India, particularly Iran’s offer to mediate for peace. He briefed the Iranian leadership on what he described as Indian expansionist aims that threaten regional stability, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining the ceasefire.
Emphasizing the historical and cultural connections between Pakistan and Iran, Prime Minister Sharif expressed a commitment to deepening the relationship. He highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in combating terrorism, stressing the need for joint efforts against external threats.
The resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue, according to the aspirations of its people and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, was also a point of emphasis by Prime Minister Sharif as crucial for regional peace.
President Pezeshkian welcomed the Pakistani delegation and assured his support for regional peace. Both leaders agreed on the importance of stability in Afghanistan for the broader region.
Economic cooperation was a key focus, with Prime Minister Sharif advocating for increased bilateral trade and the early resolution of the Iran-Pakistan Pipeline project. Additionally, he condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza and called for a two-state solution in line with UN resolutions.
Prime Minister Sharif extended an invitation to President Pezeshkian to visit Pakistan, highlighting the ongoing commitment to enhancing diplomatic and economic ties.
