Baku: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held informal meetings with several world leaders during the opening ceremony of the 29th Climate Action Summit Cop-29 in Baku today. His discussions centered around critical environment-related issues and mutual interests with leaders from the UAE, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, the UK, and Kazakhstan.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Sharif interacted with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss cooperation on climate change. The Prime Minister’s discussions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and First Lady Emine Erdogan focused on globally highlighting issues of environmental pollution and climate change, alongside mutual interests between Turkey and Pakistan.
The Prime Minister also engaged with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on the conservation of glaciers and water resources in Central Asia and Pakistan. They explored the potential for expanding communication links among Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
In addition, discussions with Nepalese President Ramchandra Paudel and Chief Advisor of Bangladesh’s Interim Government Dr. Muhammad Yunus revolved around addressing growing temperatures, the threat of rising sea levels, and forest conservation in South Asia. The meetings also covered enhancing bilateral relations between Pakistan and both Bangladesh and Nepal.
During an interaction with British counterpart Sir Keir Starmer, the conversation focused on enhancing Pakistan-UK cooperation. Furthermore, Prime Minister Sharif and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev discussed strengthening Pakistan-Kazakhstan relations and expanding regional connectivity.
