ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with a parliamentary delegation from several political parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League (Q), Balochistan Awami Party, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party, and Pakistan Muslim League (Z), to discuss the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He outlined the establishment of an impartial technocratic advisory council to assist in improving law and order, strengthening the economy, and eliminating terrorism in the region.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s approach in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, highlighting its reluctance to take a definitive stance against terrorism, which he argued posed risks to the national economy. He stated that the Federal Cabinet decided, through mutual consultation, to take constitutional actions under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution.
The Prime Minister accused the PTI government of failing to condemn terrorism explicitly or take effective measures against it, and lamented the sacrifices of Pakistan Armed Forces and security personnel. He criticized the provincial government for neglecting public welfare and fostering disorder over the past thirteen years, despite receiving over Rs800 billion from the Federal Government under the National Finance Commission Award for counter-terrorism efforts.
The parliamentary delegation assured Prime Minister Sharif of their support and commended his leadership during challenging times. They expressed hope that with federal support, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would achieve development similar to other regions in Pakistan, particularly in health, education, and infrastructure, areas they claim were neglected during PTI’s rule.
