Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Declares Public Holiday for Youm-e-Takbeer


Islamabad, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has declared a public holiday tomorrow, May 28, to commemorate Youm-e-Takbeer, marking the anniversary of Pakistan’s nuclear tests in 1998. These tests established Pakistan as the seventh nuclear nation and the first Muslim state with nuclear capabilities, aimed at ensuring national defense through minimum deterrence.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that Youm-e-Takbeer symbolizes the national unity and resolve that shielded the country from external pressures and ensured the sovereignty of Pakistan. The Prime Minister reminisced about the collective efforts of the political and defense sectors that were pivotal on this historic day. He highlighted the contributions of the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Pakistan Army in fortifying the nation’s defenses.



Shehbaz Sharif also paid homage to former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and the dedicated scientists who were instrumental in initiating and advancing Pakistan’s nuclear program. The Prime Minister encouraged the nation to use this day as a reflection of the steadfastness and unity that characterized Pakistan’s path to becoming a nuclear power. He urged the public to renew their commitment to protecting the nation against both external and internal threats, stressing the importance of unity, discipline, and faith in overcoming challenges.
