Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Declares Education Emergency in Pakistan

Islamabad, In a bold move to address the educational crisis, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared an Education Emergency aimed at enrolling 26 million out-of-school children across Pakistan.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Sharif announced the initiative during the National Conference on Education Emergency held in Islamabad. He emphasized the federal government’s commitment, in collaboration with provincial governments, to integrate all out-of-school children into the educational system. Sharif remarked on the vital role of education in national prosperity and declared his intent to personally oversee the program to ensure its success.

Drawing on his previous tenure as the Chief Minister of Punjab, Sharif shared his successes in significantly boosting school enrollment rates, especially for girls in South Punjab, through incentives such as stipends for female students and financial compensation for their families. He also highlighted his efforts in eradicating child labor, particularly his initiative to send 90,000 young boys working in brick kilns back to school. The Prime Minister praised the Danish Schools system he established, which provides quality education and boarding facilities to impoverished children.
