Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Commits to Enhanced Training and Salaries for Islamabad Police

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif pledged comprehensive financial support for the professional training and capacity building of the Islamabad Police to establish it as a model force. In a ceremony at Police Lines Headquarters, the Prime Minister announced a salary increase for the Islamabad Police to match that of the Punjab Police, emphasizing the government’s dedication to police reform.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during his address at the ‘Police Darbar,’ Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the effective role of Islamabad Police in managing a recent political rally that threatened to disrupt peace in the capital. He attributed the maintenance of order to the diligent efforts of the police, underscoring their importance in national security and public safety.

The Prime Minister also reflected on similar initiatives from his previous tenures as Chief Minister of Punjab, such as the Punjab Safe City, Dolphin Force, and Elite Force, reiterating his long-standing commitment to police reform. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, speaking earlier, noted a 38% drop in the capital’s crime rate over the past five months and commended the round-the-clock dedication of the security forces.

The Interior Minister announced the processing of promotions for 400 police personnel and detailed the expansion of the safe city project to include 7700 cameras, along with the establishment and revamping of several police stations and Khidmat Centers. These efforts, as per Naqvi, aim to enhance the service capacity and reach of the police force in Islamabad.

Prime Minister Sharif’s visit also included tributes to fallen officers, where he laid a floral wreath at the Monument of Martyrs and engaged with the families of police martyrs, acknowledging their sacrifices for the nation.
