Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Calls for Peaceful Resolutions and Global Cooperation at UN General Assembly

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, urging India to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir dispute through dialogue in accordance with UN resolutions and the Kashmiri people’s wishes. He emphasized the need for a peaceful approach to global challenges including the conflicts in Kashmir and Palestine, and the broader impacts of climate change and international terrorism.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Sharif highlighted the unilateral actions taken by India since August 2019 in Kashmir, which he described as illegal and a provocation. He called on India to engage in dialogue rather than military escalation, which threatens regional stability. The Prime Minister also addressed the expanding military capabilities of India, which he noted are largely positioned against Pakistan.

In his speech, Sharif also expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence in Palestine and the recent military actions in Lebanon by Israeli forces. He called for immediate international action to end the violence and advocated for a two-state solution with a sovereign State of Palestine. Additionally, Sharif reflected on the severe impact of climate change on Pakistan, citing the catastrophic floods that caused extensive damage and economic losses.

On domestic matters, the Prime Minister outlined the economic measures his government has implemented which have led to macroeconomic stability and reduced inflation. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fighting terrorism and highlighted the sacrifices made by Pakistanis in this long-standing battle. Sharif concluded his address by reiterating Pakistan’s dedication to upholding the UN Charter and contributing to global peace and development.
