BAKU: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Azerbaijan to participate in the World Leaders Climate Action Summit, which marks the beginning of COP29 in Baku on Tuesday. He was received at the airport by the Minister of Defence Industry of Azerbaijan, Vugar Valeh oglu Mustafayev.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, along with senior officials. The Prime Minister is scheduled to address the Summit on Wednesday.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will attend several high-level events on the sidelines of the Summit and engage in bilateral meetings with world leaders. Pakistan will also host several events and roundtable discussions at the Pakistan Pavilion during COP29.
At COP29, Pakistan intends to advocate for balanced and ambitious progress on key issues such as loss and damage, adaptation, mitigation, and means of implementation. The country will also push for predictable financing to support the climate goals of developing countries.
