Prime Minister Shehbaz Highlights Contributions of Buddhist Scholars to Interfaith Harmony

Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has commended the historical and ongoing contributions of Buddhist scholars to interfaith harmony, during a meeting with a delegation of Buddhist leaders in Islamabad.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister expressed pride in Pakistan’s rich Gandhara heritage and its significance in ancient Buddhist history. The discussions, part of a symposium and exhibition titled “From Gandhara to the World,” underscored the government’s commitment to preserving this heritage and promoting inclusivity across different faiths. The visiting delegation, including leaders and ministers from Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Thailand, and Nepal, lauded Pakistan’s efforts and expressed a strong desire for collaboration in the conservation of Buddhist sites and artifacts.

The meeting also focused on strengthening interfaith dialogue and explored potential cultural and academic exchanges between Pakistan and Buddhist-majority countries. A joint forum for further dialogue and cooperation was notably discussed as a key initiative moving forward.
