Astana: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif addressed the SCO Council of Heads of State Summit today, advocating for expanded cooperation and reforms within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), emphasizing Pakistan’s dedication to the organization’s charter. The Prime Minister welcomed Belarus as a new full member and congratulated President Xi Jinping on becoming the SCO Chair.
According to Press Information Department, Sharif’s statement highlighted Pakistan’s significant role in promoting regional connectivity, citing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a key initiative aligning with SCO goals. He stressed the importance of combating climate change, enhancing regional trade routes, and supporting socioeconomic development under the SCO framework. Sharif also voiced Pakistan’s commitment to peace and stability in Afghanistan and condemned terrorism in all forms. He highlighted ongoing global challenges, including the impacts of conflicts and pandemics on SCO countries, and called for concerted efforts to improve living standards across the region.
The Prime Minister underscored the urgency of resolving long-standing disputes through international law and called for immediate action to address the crisis in Palestine, advocating for a two-state solution. He announced that Pakistan would host the next SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting, aiming to foster further cooperation among member states.
