Prime Minister Sharif Orders Swift Aid for Rain-Hit Communities

Islamabad, In the wake of recent torrential rains, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued immediate directives for the provision of assistance to those affected, emphasizing the importance of transparent and targeted aid distribution.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a meeting held in Islamabad on Tuesday, the Prime Minister instructed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to expedite a joint survey in collaboration with provincial authorities, ensuring that aid reaches only those directly impacted by the rains. Additionally, he called for the development of a comprehensive strategy to address natural disasters more effectively in the future.

The NDMA briefed the Prime Minister on the ongoing assistance, rescue, and relief efforts, outlining the damage caused by the rains and the steps taken by the federal government to support the affected populations. Special attention was given to the distribution of relief goods, with a focus on Balochistan, where significant efforts have been made to provide essential supplies to the communities in Gwadar, Quetta, and Dalbandin.

The meeting underscored the urgency of completing the survey, particularly in Balochistan, to assess the damage to homes and infrastructure. The Prime Minister was informed of the substantial amount of dry rations already distributed and the plans for continued support until the end of the month.

Prime Minister Sharif urged provincial governments to collaborate closely with the NDMA in managing the aftermath of natural disasters. The briefing also covered weather forecasts for the coming months and NDMA’s preparedness to mitigate future risks.

In a broader context of humanitarian aid, the meeting highlighted Pakistan’s contribution to global relief efforts, noting the significant amount of supplies sent to Gaza since October.

Prime Minister Sharif’s directives reflect a commitment to ensuring effective disaster response and recovery measures, aiming to alleviate the hardship faced by rain-affected communities across Pakistan.
