Prime Minister Sharif Emphasizes Innovation on World Food Day

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s dedication to tackling food security challenges on World Food Day, underscoring the importance of innovation and modern technology in agriculture. With a theme of “Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow,” the day serves as a reminder of the critical role that innovative practices play in sustaining food systems amid climate unpredictability.

According to Press Information Department, Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to modernizing agricultural practices through scientific and technological advancements. The establishment of the National Agricultural and Food Security Council aims to promote research, improve irrigation, and enhance linkages between farmers and markets. By involving provincial governments and institutions, the government is advancing initiatives to improve seed quality, mechanize agriculture, and develop digital systems.

The federal government is also focused on easing financial constraints for smallholder farmers by facilitating access to affordable credit with the help of private banks. Efforts to strengthen storage infrastructure and expand processing facilities are underway to boost the economic and nutritional value of agricultural products, thereby unlocking Pakistan’s agricultural potential and increasing exports.

Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that food security involves not only food supply but also its quality and nutritional value, urging collective efforts to build a sustainable food system. He called on provincial authorities, farmers, researchers, and the private sector to collaborate in empowering farmers and ensuring food security for the nation.
