Prime Minister Sharif Calls for Strengthened Legal Measures Against Human Trafficking


Islamabad: In a decisive move to combat human trafficking, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the enhancement of the country’s legal framework, underscoring the necessity for inter-ministerial cooperation.



According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Sharif chaired the inaugural meeting of a specially formed task force in Islamabad on Monday. He directed the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Law and Justice to collaborate in reinforcing the legal measures aimed at tackling human trafficking.



The Prime Minister emphasized the need to expedite the implementation of the Federal Prosecution Act 2023. He instructed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to share information obtained during investigations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aiming to facilitate the extradition process of human traffickers.



Sharif reiterated that eliminating human trafficking requires the concerted efforts of all relevant institutions. He also ordered the issuance of red warrants for those involved in human trafficking activities.



In response to a recent incident involving a boat sinking in Morocco, Prime Minister Sharif confirmed that authorities have identified twenty-seven human traffickers, with five arrests already made in connection to the incident.
