Prime Minister Sharif and President Aliyev Discuss Regional Peace and Bilateral Ties


Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif spoke with President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, expressing gratitude for Azerbaijan’s support during a recent South Asian crisis. Sharif emphasized the importance of the Pakistan-Azerbaijan relationship and discussed regional peace and economic collaboration.



During the call, Prime Minister Sharif thanked President Aliyev for his steadfast support, highlighting the strong bond and friendship between the two nations. He also expressed appreciation for Azerbaijan’s solidarity with Pakistan.



Sharif addressed regional tensions, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to a ceasefire with India for the sake of peace. However, he raised concerns over provocative statements from Indian leaders and affirmed Pakistan’s readiness to defend its sovereignty if necessary.



The Prime Minister identified the Kashmir dispute as the root cause of instability in South Asia and thanked Azerbaijan for supporting the Kashmir Cause in line with UN resolutions.



On bilateral relations, Sharif mentioned ongoing efforts to strengthen economic ties, noting Azerbaijan’s proposed investment of USD 2 billion in Pakistan. He invited President Aliyev to visit Pakistan, an invitation that was warmly accepted.



President Aliyev congratulated Pakistan on its achievements and expressed support for peace efforts, reaffirming Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Pakistan in various areas.
