Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif engaged in a telephone conversation with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, expressing gratitude for Egypt’s diplomatic efforts in easing South Asian tensions between Pakistan and India.
The Prime Minister acknowledged Egypt’s balanced statements and proactive diplomacy during the recent crisis. He also praised the Pakistani Armed Forces for their role in defending national sovereignty and emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining the ceasefire with India for regional peace.
Sharif highlighted the Indus Waters Treaty, which India has threatened to suspend, as a critical issue for Pakistan. The conversation also touched upon the Middle East, with Sharif urging international efforts for humanitarian aid to Gaza and expressing hope for positive outcomes from the upcoming UN Conference on the Two-State Solution.
In discussing bilateral relations, both leaders expressed satisfaction and a desire to enhance trade and investment between Pakistan and Egypt. President Al-Sisi applauded Pakistan’s peace efforts in South Asia and its humanitarian support to Gaza, affirming Egypt’s interest in stronger ties with Pakistan.
The Prime Minister invited President Al-Sisi for an official visit to Pakistan, an offer which was accepted.
