New York: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The discussions focused on reaffirming the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Iran and explored avenues to enhance bilateral cooperation.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting included key figures such as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and SAPM Tariq Fatemi, alongside senior officials from both nations. The leaders addressed the evolving regional situation, with Prime Minister Sharif expressing concern over ongoing conflicts and advocating for diplomatic engagement to achieve regional peace and stability. He emphasized the importance of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting regional peace initiatives.

President Pezeshkian acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and reaffirmed Iran’s desire to deepen cooperation based on shared history and culture. Both sides agreed on the necessity of regular consultations and coordination to address challenges and capitalize on opportunities for regional prosperity.
