Shenzhen, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to fostering an innovative and sustainable digital ecosystem during his visit to Huawei Technologies Corporation headquarters today.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister praised Huawei’s technological advancements and encouraged the company to expand its investment in Pakistan. Discussions during the visit focused on potential collaborations to enhance Pakistan’s digital infrastructure in areas such as e-governance, digital banking, telecommunications, and artificial intelligence. Huawei Chairman Liang Hua welcomed Prime Minister Sharif and his delegation, who also toured the Huawei Exhibition Centre to view the latest innovations.
During a bilateral meeting, Prime Minister Sharif discussed initiatives undertaken by his government to improve the investment climate and ease of doing business in Pakistan. He urged Huawei to prioritize the establishment of safe-city projects in various cities, particularly those involved in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor projects. Sharif also highlighted opportunities for Huawei to invest in sectors like agriculture technology and further digitalization of government functions.
A significant outcome of the visit was the signing of a framework agreement between Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology and Huawei. Under this agreement, Huawei will provide free IT training to 200,000 Pakistani youth, including in artificial intelligence, and will assist in developing safe-city projects, e-governance, and the digitalization of Pakistan’s economy.
