Prime Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Development Amidst Political Challenges

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated his government’s commitment to the development and prosperity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, emphasizing the welfare of its people amidst ongoing political and economic challenges. Addressing the PML-N Parliamentary Party and office-bearers from the region, the Prime Minister underscored the necessity of imposing governor’s rule and emergency measures in the province to safeguard citizens and the broader societal framework.

According to Radio Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif articulated that these decisions were imperative to prevent further losses and criticized the previous administration for what he described as an overemphasis on political rhetoric at the expense of tangible progress. He questioned the number of universities and hospitals established during the past thirteen years of rule by the former party in power, suggesting that resources were not adequately channeled into essential services like the Safe City projects or the strengthening of the Counter Terrorism Department.

The Prime Minister highlighted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had received eight hundred billion rupees under the NFC Award, resources that he argued should have been used to equip local police forces with modern weapons and training. Acknowledging the sacrifices made by the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the fight against terrorism, Sharif stated that these contributions are invaluable and must be remembered.

Reflecting on past successes, Shehbaz Sharif noted that terrorism was previously eliminated during Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s tenure but expressed regret over the return of terrorist elements in 2019 and 2020. He linked this resurgence to substantial national losses while affirming that military and political leaders continue to collaborate in efforts to stabilize the economy.

Despite challenges like global developments and rising energy prices due to the Gulf war, the government has launched a fuel subsidy scheme benefiting thirteen million citizens, Sharif said. The Prime Minister reiterated that providing relief to the poor remains a government’s priority, with ongoing measures aimed at shielding the national economy from further instability.
