The commemoration took place on the anniversary of the former president’s passing, recognizing both his and his family’s efforts in furthering the cause of freedom and Islamic teachings.
According to Press Information Department – Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Haq praised Mirwaiz Yusuf Shah for his courage in opposing the alliance of Congress and Sheikh Abdullah in the Kashmir Valley. He highlighted the Shah family’s dedication to making Mirwaiz Manzil a beacon for the education and propagation of Islam, alongside nurturing the spirit of unity and consensus among Muslims, which he deemed essential for achieving national goals.
The prime minister reflected on Mirwaiz Yusuf Shah’s vision and determination in the face of adversity, including the martyrdom of family members Mirwaiz Maulvi Muhammad Farooq and Aj Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in the Kashmir freedom struggle. He commended Mirwaiz Yusuf Shah’s multifaceted contributions, from his deep involvement in the development and construction within the region to his significant diplomatic efforts in Islamic countries.
One of Mirwaiz Yusuf Shah’s enduring legacies, as noted by Prime Minister Haq, is his translation and interpretation of the Holy Qur’an into the Kashmiri language—a monumental achievement that continues to inspire the Kashmiri people. Furthermore, his political and religious leadership, marked by proficiency in multiple languages and a prominent position within both spheres, was also celebrated.
