Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif issued a statement to commemorate the 1947 Jammu Massacre, highlighting the event as a significant atrocity in the history of Jammu and Kashmir. The massacre, which occurred on November 6, 1947, is remembered by Kashmiris worldwide as the “first massive genocide” by Indian armed forces.
In November 1947, thousands of Kashmiris were killed in an effort by Indian forces and extremists to alter the region’s demographic composition. Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that these actions were intended to change the religious and demographic majority of Kashmir and continue to this day, notably with the events of August 5, 2019.
Pakistan pays tribute to the Kashmiri martyrs of 1947 and condemns India’s actions, which it views as violations of United Nations Security Council resolutions and International Law. The Prime Minister stated that India is guilty of ongoing human rights violations and the denial of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.
The day serves as a reminder of the resilience and determination of the people in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) to achieve freedom. The Prime Minister noted that despite facing brutalities, Kashmiris have consistently resisted Indian forces’ actions.
Pakistan reaffirms its support for the people of IIOJK and pledges to continue advocating for the Kashmir issue on the international stage. The Prime Minister called on the international community to address the violations of human rights and International Law by India in Kashmir.
Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s stance that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved in accordance with UNSC resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
