Prime Minister Kakar Directs Development of Comprehensive Strategy on Climate Change

Islamabad, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has emphasized the urgent need for a strategic approach to address the adverse impacts of climate change. During the 2nd meeting of the Pakistan Climate Change Council in Islamabad, the Prime Minister called for the formulation of short-term, medium-term, and long-term frameworks to combat climate change effects.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Kakar highlighted that despite contributing less than one percent to global climate change, Pakistan is among the most affected countries. He recalled the devastating floods from the previous year, affecting one-third of Pakistan’s population. The Prime Minister praised the Ministry of Climate Change and activists for their efforts and stressed the importance of provincial cooperation in mitigating climate change impacts. He also announced that Pakistan would actively present its case at the upcoming COP-28 conference in the United Arab Emirates. A committee of experts from the Pakistan Climate Change Council has been formed to develop a policy framework for the formation and trading of carbon credits market in Pakistan.
