Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has highlighted the necessity of coordinated efforts to protect Pakistan’s sovereignty and ensure the safety of its citizens while reinforcing economic and social stability. Chairing a meeting of the Federal Apex Committee of the National Action Plan, he directed stakeholders to pursue outlined initiatives with vigor for timely implementation.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the meeting, attended by members of the Federal Cabinet, Provincial Chief Ministers, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, and senior government officials, focused on “Reinvigorating Pakistan’s Counter Terrorism Campaign.” Participants were briefed on the evolving security landscape and measures to counter terrorism and other critical challenges, including law and order, sub-nationalism, religious extremism, and disinformation campaigns.
The Committee stressed the importance of a unified political voice and national consensus to address these challenges effectively. The revitalization of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and the establishment of National and Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centres were agreed upon. A whole-of-system approach, incorporating diplomatic, political, informational, intelligence, socio-economic, and military efforts, was adopted to tackle these issues.
The meeting emphasized strengthening collaboration between federal and provincial governments and relevant institutions. District Coordination Committees will be established under Provincial Apex Committees to ensure the implementation of directives from Federal and Provincial Governments. A comprehensive military operation against terrorist organizations in Balochistan was approved, targeting groups like the Majeed Brigade, BLA, BLF, and BRAS.
The Chief of Army Staff reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to eliminating threats to national security and supporting government initiatives for peace and stability.
