Prime Minister directs authorities concerned to facilitate farmers 

Islamabad, November 16, 2021 (PPI-OT):Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the authorities concerned to facilitate farmers in increasing yield of their crops and reducing basic production cost. He was chairing a high-level meeting on the development of the agricultural sector in Islamabad today. The Prime Minister said assistance to farmers in agricultural planning, provision of quality seeds, modern agricultural machinery and easy loans are amongst the top priorities of the government.

He said the government is trying to further increase production of agricultural commodities in coming years with farmers’ support. Imran Khan also acknowledged Development Finance Program by the banking sector for the development of agriculture sector in Gujranwala and Okara districts.

The meeting was informed that the agriculture sector, with 19 percent contribution to the GDP, provides raw material to manufacturing unites while the sector has share of about 60-65 percent of the total national economy. The meeting was attended by Minister for National Food Security Syed Fakhar Imam, Finance Advisor Shaukat Tarin, Punjab Minister for Agriculture Syed Hussain Jahania Gardezi and other senior officers while Governor State Bank Dr. Raza Baqir participated the meeting through video link.
