Islamabad, April 17, 2023 (PPI-OT):Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Monday to devise a comprehensive strategy for elimination of smuggling of sugar and other essential commodities. Earlier, chairing a high-level meeting in Lahore, the Prime Minister expressed strong resentment over the reports of profiteering and smuggling of essential commodities like sugar. He ordered a major crackdown against sugar smuggling, hoarding and profiteering and directed the authorities concerned to take stern action against those involved in it.
The Prime Minister directed Punjab Chief Minister to ensure strict monitoring of sugar prices in the province and formulate action plan for onward supply of sugar seized from smugglers and hoarders, to the people at prescribed rates. He also asked the Chief Minister to hold consultations with sugar mills’ owners to stop increase in sugar?s price.
