Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has expressed satisfaction with the country’s economic situation and directed authorities to expedite action against tax evaders. Chairing a meeting in Islamabad, he emphasized the importance of collective responsibility for national progress and warned that tax evaders and their accomplices will face justice as the country moves toward economic stability.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister highlighted significant economic achievements, including a bullish stock market trend and a reduction in the inflation rate from 38 percent to 7 percent. He stated that providing relief to the people remains a top priority and noted that the decline in interest rates from 22 to 15 percent is expected to stimulate business activities.
The Prime Minister also pointed to increased confidence among foreign investors and a surge in foreign exchange reserves, attributed to rising domestic exports and record remittances. He commended the Punjab government for its reforms in the agricultural sector.
During the meeting, discussions included the current economic situation, inflation, and measures against tax evaders. The Finance Ministry provided a briefing on recent talks with IMF delegations.
