Islamabad, President Asif Ali Zardari made a solemn visit to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China today to express Pakistan’s deep condolences over the recent terrorist attack in Bisham, which resulted in the loss of Chinese citizens. The visit underscored a shared grief and a strong condemnation of the violence, reinforcing the bonds between Pakistan and China amidst tragedy.
According to Press Information Department, the President was warmly received by the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Jiang Zaidong, and accompanied by the Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. President Zardari conveyed the collective mourning of the Pakistani nation and affirmed the country’s solidarity with the people of China during this distressing time. He emphasized the unity and strength of Pakistan-China relations, even in the face of attempts to disrupt these ties through acts of terrorism.
During the discussions, President Zardari vowed that those responsible for the barbaric act would be captured and prosecuted. He assured Ambassador Jiang of Pakistan’s commitment to the safety of Chinese nationals working on various projects within its borders, indicating plans to enhance security measures and counter-terrorism cooperation.
Ambassador Jiang, appreciating the President’s gesture, reflected on the broad support from Pakistanis condemning the attack. He spoke of the significant contributions of Chinese workers to Pakistan’s development and stressed the necessity of a joint effort to combat the menace of terrorism. The Ambassador also reiterated China’s dedication to further strengthening bilateral cooperation and continuing support for initiatives such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
In a poignant moment at the Embassy, President Zardari left a message in the visitor’s book, calling the attack a direct assault on the shared values and deep-rooted friendship between Pakistan and China.
