Islamabad: On the eve of ‘Kashmir Black Day’, President Asif Ali Zardari delivered a poignant message highlighting the prolonged conflict and suffering in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), criticizing India’s actions and calling for international accountability.
According to Press Information Department, President Zardari detailed the severe conditions under which Kashmiris live, citing the extensive militarization of the region, the imprisonment of local leaders, and the censorship of the media. He condemned the steps taken by India since August 5, 2019, which include revoking IIOJK’s special status and altering the demographic makeup, as attempts to suppress the Kashmiri freedom movement. Despite the ongoing repression, he noted the resilience of the Kashmiri people in their quest for autonomy.
The President emphasized the global community’s role in resolving such disputes, drawing parallels with recent events in the Middle East to illustrate the dangers of ignoring longstanding conflicts. He urged the international community, particularly the United Nations, to take decisive action to ensure Kashmiris’ right to self-determination, as promised in various UN Security Council resolutions. Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to support the Kashmiri struggle both morally and politically until they achieve their rightful independence.
