President Zardari Cites UN Charter Violations in Kashmir and Palestine as Threats to Global Peace

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari expressed concerns that violations in regions such as Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine are undermining the United Nations Charter’s vision for global peace, development, and human rights.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement marking United Nations Day on October 24, President Zardari highlighted that despite significant achievements since its inception 79 years ago, the UN Charter’s objectives are being compromised by ongoing conflicts in Occupied Palestinian Territory and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). “The blatant violations of its principles and purposes pose a severe threat to its vision of universal peace, development, and human rights for all,” he noted.

The President called for a reinvigoration of the UN Charter’s values, emphasizing the need for peace, conflict resolution, and meeting the aspirations of people worldwide. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the UN Charter and its readiness to work with all member states towards achieving a peaceful and prosperous global community.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s historical stance, Zardari drew inspiration from Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, asserting that Pakistan has always upheld the principles of the UN Charter. “We have maintained a firm and abiding commitment to multilateralism, with the UN playing a central role in promoting international peace and security, sustainable development, and human rights for all,” he stated, also mentioning Pakistan’s significant contributions to UN peacekeeping efforts.
