President Zardari Calls for Wide Participation in Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has issued a national call to action for Pakistanis, especially the youth, to engage in the Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign 2024, aiming to significantly enhance the country’s forest cover.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in a recent message dedicated to the Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign 2024, President Zardari expressed his appreciation for the citizens’ efforts in environmental conservation. He emphasized the critical state of Pakistan’s forests, which currently constitute only about five percent of the total land area, and are increasingly threatened by overexploitation and land use changes.

The President outlined the transformative potential of the Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign, envisioning it as a pivotal movement to secure a sustainable and verdant future for the upcoming generations. He also highlighted the success of the Delta Blue Carbon initiative, which has led to a 300% increase in mangrove cover since 1990, and the Living Indus Program, recognized with the UN Decade of Restoration Flagship Award, for its efforts to combat deforestation.
