President Zardari Advocates for Expanded Bilateral Ties with Uzbekistan

Islamabad, President Asif Ali Zardari has proposed a broad enhancement of bilateral ties with Uzbekistan across multiple sectors, including trade, economy, culture, and tourism. These views were expressed during a meeting with Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Mr. Bakhtiyor Saidov, emphasizing the long-standing and culturally rich relationship between the two nations.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, President Zardari highlighted the historical and cultural connections that form the foundation of Pakistan-Uzbekistan relations. He stressed the importance of utilizing both countries’ strategic positions to bolster regional connectivity and economic interaction. The President proposed innovative economic measures such as barter trade and the use of local currencies to strengthen trade relations, and he advocated for the establishment of banking links to support business and commercial activities between the two countries.

The Uzbek Foreign Minister, on his part, outlined a desire for a clear roadmap to deepen the bilateral relationship and suggested an action plan to enhance trade and economic cooperation. He also recognized the potential benefits of a transport corridor between the two countries in improving bilateral ties. Minister Saidov conveyed the warm regards of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to President Zardari, underscoring the mutual interest in strengthening the partnership.
