Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized the need to expand bilateral relations with Turkmenistan across various sectors, advocating for increased connectivity and cooperation during a meeting with Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the discussion underscored a shared vision for peace and prosperity in the region, with President Zardari reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Turkmenistan. The exchange of high-level visits was highlighted as a testament to the mutual desire to enhance bilateral understanding and cooperation.
The President called for improved connectivity between the two nations, particularly through the strategic use of Pakistan’s Gwadar port to boost regional trade. He urged Turkmenistan to capitalize on this opportunity for greater economic engagement. Additionally, President Zardari stressed the importance of continuous dialogue and exchange at all levels to foster economic, trade, investment, and cultural relationships.
Foreign Minister Meredov echoed the sentiments of cordial relations and expressed Turkmenistan’s intent to continue promoting economic, cultural, and educational cooperation with Pakistan. He also discussed the strategic construction of motorways and railways through Afghanistan to better connect the two countries.
Concluding the meeting, Meredov conveyed greetings from Turkmenistan’s leadership, which President Zardari reciprocated, expressing anticipation for the upcoming visit of Turkmenistan’s Grand Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Pakistan.
