Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has called for significant improvements in cricket infrastructure and training facilities across Sindh. In a meeting with the Sindh Premier League (SPL) officials at Aiwan-e-Sadr, he stressed the importance of developing modern sports facilities and promoting joint ventures in the cricket sector to boost the province’s talent and economic prospects.
According to Press Information Department, the meeting included SPL Chairman Malik Aslam and other key figures such as Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Department of Sindh, Mr Jalaluddin Mahar, and Vice Chairman SPL, Major General (r) Zahid Mehmood. During the discussions, President Zardari highlighted the SPL’s role in showcasing local cricket talent and its potential to enhance sports tourism and stimulate economic activities in Sindh.
The SPL delegation briefed the President on their inaugural season’s success and future plans, which include establishing a high-performance center in Karachi to train young talent, especially from rural and underrepresented areas. They also discussed the challenges facing the league. In response, President Zardari promised to support the SPL by encouraging the Sindh Government and the Pakistan Cricket Board to provide necessary assistance for infrastructure development and successful mentoring programs.
The meeting concluded with the SPL delegation presenting an SPL shirt to President Zardari as a token of appreciation for his support.
