Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to protecting its national interests and regional security amid tensions with Afghanistan and India.
The President emphasized Pakistan’s stance on Jammu and Kashmir, declaring India’s claims as unlawful under international law and United Nations resolutions. He expressed regret over the Interim Afghan administration’s shift away from supporting the Kashmiri struggle, viewing it as a disservice to both history and the Muslim community.
Zardari highlighted attacks from Afghan territory by India-backed Khawarij terrorists, a situation documented in United Nations reports. He called on the Afghan government to act against anti-Pakistan elements operating from its soil, identifying these groups as significant threats to regional stability.
He underscored Pakistan’s longstanding support for Afghan refugees and the importance of their dignified repatriation for peace. While committing to humanitarian aid for Afghanistan, Zardari affirmed that Pakistan’s sovereignty remains uncompromised.
The President cited Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating Afghan trade and economic ties, advocating for mutual cooperation as a foundation for peace. He urged the Afghan government to prevent its territory from being used by terrorists, stressing that collaborative actions are crucial for lasting regional peace.
