Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari underscored the significance of expanding trade and enhancing connectivity during a meeting with the Uzbek Ambassador, Mr. Alisher Tukhtaev, at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, improving market access, and operationalizing trade facilitation mechanisms.
According to Press Information Department, President Zardari highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to its relationship with Uzbekistan, emphasizing historical and cultural ties. He proposed improving business linkages and investments while affirming the importance of regional connectivity through projects like the Trans-Afghan Railway. The President also acknowledged Pakistan’s strategic position as a gateway to warm waters via Gwadar and Karachi ports.
Ambassador Tukhtaev expressed gratitude for the reception and stressed Uzbekistan’s interest in bolstering trade and connectivity with Pakistan. He acknowledged Pakistan’s role in regional integration and peace efforts. Additionally, the Ambassador extended an invitation from Uzbekistan’s President for President Zardari to visit, with preparations underway for the visit later this year.
