President, PM Vow to Boost Disaster Risk Reduction Capacity

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing Pakistan’s disaster risk reduction capabilities and safeguarding vulnerable populations.

In separate statements made on National Resilience Day, which is being observed today, both leaders paid tribute to the nation’s resilience and unity in recovering from the catastrophic earthquake of October 8, 2005.

President Zardari highlighted the progress made in the country’s disaster management efforts, citing the establishment of a sophisticated National Emergencies Operation Center. This facility utilizes advanced technology to improve early warning systems and risk assessments.

Prime Minister Sharif noted the importance of mobilizing national resources, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of provincial governments, the armed forces, rescue services, and various partners from the humanitarian sector, private sector, and civil society.

He also called on citizens from both urban and rural areas to engage in disaster preparedness activities to bolster national resilience.

These statements underscore the government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the nation’s disaster management framework and ensuring preparedness for future challenges.
