Islamabad, President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry praised the efforts of the Kashmiri diaspora, particularly in the United States, for keeping the Kashmir issue alive on the global stage. In a meeting with a delegation led by Ms. Ghazala Habib, Chairperson of Friends of Kashmir International (USA), he acknowledged the significant role played by overseas Kashmiris in drawing international attention to the situation in the region.
According to President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the President commended the Kashmiri community in the United States for their active involvement in raising awareness about the issue, especially during the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York. He pointed out that their protests and advocacy efforts have been instrumental in highlighting India’s actions in Occupied Kashmir and drawing attention to human rights violations in the region.
President Chaudhry briefed the delegation on the increasing cruelty and human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir, stressing the need to expose these actions to the international community. He asserted that India’s attempts to suppress the Kashmiri people’s spirit of freedom would not succeed and expressed hope for the region’s liberation from Indian rule.
Ms. Ghazala Habib, in response, paid tribute to President Chaudhry’s political and diplomatic efforts regarding the Kashmir issue. She assured continued efforts by Friends of Kashmir International (USA) and the Kashmiri community in America to keep the issue at the forefront of global forums. Additionally, she extended an invitation to President Chaudhry to visit the United States to garner international support for the Kashmir cause, an invitation he accepted, emphasizing the importance of international public opinion in resolving the Kashmir issue.
The meeting underscores the ongoing efforts by the leadership of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the Kashmiri diaspora to keep the international community engaged and informed about the situation in Kashmir.
